I went to Rhode Island with ten friends for the July 4th Weekend & to celebrate my BFF’s 25th birthday. We were fortunate enough to stay at her family’s house where we spent the majority of the weekend cooking, kayaking, walking on the beach, playing cornhole, frisbee, darts, pool & badminton.  So be aware – I don’t have many activity or AirBnB/hotel recommendations this go-around! Very food & drink focused, but that’s never a bad thing!

FYI – I’m backtracking a bit to July 4th Weekend since I’ve traveled so much this summer! I think this new series series, Travel Chronicles, is quickly becoming my favorite. Figured I would cover my Summer ’17 so far. Upcoming reviews: Chicago, IL & Portland, Maine!

See below for some of Newport, RI hot spots! Also giving myself a shoutout for the amount of happiness & relaxation I’m flaunting in that first picture #blessed.

FOODQuick warning about nighttime eating in Newport – all kitchens close at 10pm. For most people, I feel like this is normal, but for a New Yorker it can be a little daunting as we’re used to everything being open, all of the time.

Newport Lobster Shack: Delicious lobster rolls and the price wasn’t horrible compared to some other places. Sarah’s customized version: I got the Lobster Salad with a bunch of lemon wedges. Gorgeous view right by the water & marina. Short walk to downtown Newport.

The Landing: Sitting right on Bowen’s Wharf waterfront, the landing was a great place for lunch. I enjoyed their Bloody Mary & Caribbean Mahi Mahi (From their menu: Grilled Mahi Mahi, Red pepper puree, “paw paw” relish, grilled escarole & plantains) which was delish! The table also split Steamers, Calamari & Crab and Artichoke Dip. After the meal we hung out at the outside bar and listened to some live music. Images: Some from restaurant Instagram.

Wharf Pub & Restaurant: We got here for dinner at 9:50pm, 10 minutes prior to the kitchen closes and they were nice enough to let the ten of us sit down and get a quick bite before going out. I got The Classic Burger Sarah’s customized version: No bun. Added bacon. No fries, replace with brussel sprouts. Side of mustard. Images: Some from restaurant Yelp Page

NIGHTLIFE: We stayed mostly at the house, but hopped around a few places on Saturday night. Same warning as above – bars close at 1am. All kind of the same vibe: good people, kind of fratty, mid-twenties to early thirties crowd.

SpeakEasy, The Dockside, O’Briens Pub, Parlor Bar & Kitchen

Have you ever been to Newport, RI? Any places I should check out next time I visit?
